May Program: Introduction to Bonsai (part 2 of 2) (am) & Open Workshop (pm)

May 17 @ 10:00 am 4:00 pm

Guest Artist: David Knittle and Senior Members.

Introduction to Bonsai (part 2 of 2)

Note: Session 1 (March) is a prerequisite for the second session in May.

Morning Session: 10 am – 12:30 pm

In our morning session, we will continue from where we left off in March. We’ll have a brief review and then move directly into a hands-on styling of a pre-bonsai Juniper (image below). This is not ordinary nursery stock. These are pre-bonsai that we sourced from New England Bonsai. With instructions you will clean, examine and do the initial styling of your tree, which will include pruning and wiring. We will talk about aftercare and when to repot. You should come out of this workshop with a nice little starter bonsai and a good basic understanding of styling and wiring.

We will provide the wire and the tree for each participant. Cost of the workshop will be a very reasonable $40 per person for dues paid members.

We will give priority to folks who took the first session, but we have a good number of trees so we may be able to accommodate everyone who’s interested. To sign up for this workshop please contact me (Doug) at gmbs.vermont@gmail.com as soon as possible.

Open Workshop

Afternoon Session: 1 pm – 4 pm

The afternoon session will be an open workshop. For those of you who are new this means bringing a tree or trees and David and senior members will be available to help with or address any concerns that you might have. It’s a great opportunity to work with other folks and get some encouragement and expert advice.
